The outside of the door coordinates with the outside of the house and the inside of the door with the inside. If you have any rooms in your house that are a different color, the same thing goes. Many men, my husband included, lets me run with the decorating for a reason.

I just put in new front door. You match up whatever for outside or slight contrast for accent.
Inside is to match with your wall color or just basic white.
If it is a steel door it takes a paint called gel paint.
If it is a unfinished wood a stain comes out great.or the basic paint.

The outer surface of your front door should complement the exterior of the house … the interior surface should go with the interior of the house!

It is that simple! The surface that you see should relate to its surroundings … you cannot see the outside surface from inside, nor can you see the inside surface from outside!

I LOVE a red front door! It makes a welcoming statement and points your guests (unmistakeably!) to the entry. But once inside (and the door is closed) the interior surface should blend or relate to the interior walls of the entry. Doesn’t have to be the same color as the walls, and it sure doesn’t have to be WHITE, but it should look like a part of the interior decor.

painting the door red means that you have paid off your mortgage. typically you want your front door to pop out and not blend in with your house. so if the outside of the house is lighter in color than go with a darker color.

My front door is Red on the outside and the edges and white on the inside.

No, you do not need to paint each side of the door the same color. My front door, for example, is wood. The exterior side was glazed with a raspberry color (paint/glaze mix allowing the grain to totally show thru) and the interior side was not glazed, but left oak wood; stained and finished.

You are right because I just bought a really expensive front door made out of fiberglass. It came with the dark red color on the outside and is white on the inside. I guess you could paint it purple if it turns you on but most homes you will find white on the inside.

why the heck would u do that?! it would be too dark i think. i hate when my husband tries to gove me his decorating imput when he dosent know what hes talking about. plus exterier house colors if its the door or the house itself tend to be colors that u dont use inside of the house. the inside and outside of the door never need to match!!
