Can i cut off and replace a part of my carpet with tile or wood flooring?
I have a high traffic area in front of door to hallway that is very worn and also damaged from pet accidents. I’d like to replace this part now and maybe do the rest with something much later on.
Tile w/ pets and high traffic is a better bet. You won t need much and it ll handle the traffic and pets. When I do something like that I pull back the carpet and leave it.. Some times projects don t turn out exactly as measured and carpet may bo cut to short. ( Happened once when a costumer told me he had a certain size tile and it wasn t and thus carpet was cut wrong) Padding and tack strips can be trimmed and replaced easily so don t worry about that to much. After carpet is pulled back nail the back side that is folded over down so you take less chance of losing you stretch.. 1x2s ( or 1x3s) work the best by nailing thru them to the sub floor GL

you can cut the area you want to expose. But leave a little extra so you can fold it under. use tack strip around the perimeter of the area. and maybe some carpet glue.

Yes you can just cut the carpet a couple inches longer than your layout so you can trim and tuck when finished.

This is a good idea. Cut out the worn/damaged part with a sharp stanley knife using a metal ruler (mark out straight edges first with marker, making sure you have a perfect square/rectangle. and cut just outside the mark. If you want to mark a circle use a piece of wood/dowelling half the size of the diameter required, drill a hole in one end to accommodate the marker pen and a nail in the other and use this as a compass.*
Cut out exactly to fit the new piece of carpet or tile.
Place wide (carpet) double sided tape underneath the original carpet with enough left outside to accommodate the new piece and press down
firmly. You may need to trim odd tufts of carpet sticking up with a sharp pair of scissors.
If laying some wood flooring begin as above to*
Lay the wood flooring in the space and fix as per manufacturers instructions
Neaten the border with batton or carpet edging
Hope this helps

i would consider something a little more durable like tiles that way pet accidents can be easily washed and water from outside wont effect it.laminate flooring and moisture don’t go together.but otherwise go for it.you could just tile by the door then do laminate latter on for the rest
