Help!Tacky? to have a variety of flooring installed on floor i have tile,marble,wood, and vinyle, AND carpet!?
is it weird or tacky? for our house to have: ceramic tile in the hallway, marble in master and living room (same kind of marble for both), and wood in 2 other rooms, and also carppet in one room which is in a separate hallway, NOT near the other 3 rooms.
also, we have vinyle tiles in our dinning and kitchen, which is next to the living room ( we havent had enough money to change the flooring there)
Anyway, my question to you is, what do you feel about this VARIETYof flooring, would you think its weird to have MarBLE IN THE ROOM? LIVing ROOm? any comments or ideas would be great!

It sounds pretty broken up to me, and probably not the greatest feng shui either.
I’d try to narrow it down to just a two or three surfaces. I don’t like carpet at all, it’s a haven for bacteria and vinyl tile is just yucky. Wood is wonderful, many ceramics are great and marble is nice but slippery. If the one carpeted room is away from the others it’s probably ok for the moment, I’d focus on getting rid of the vinyl tile and replacing it with porcelain or natual stone when you can afford it. Porcelain if you have kids and pets, natual stone if you want to tie in to the marble in the living and master. Light travertines are beautiful and relatively inexpensive. If the ceramic hallway is your entry hall, I’d leave it ceramic because it’s so hard wearing, if it’s not the entry hall I’d consider eventually replacing it with something that would match adjacent rooms.
I don’t think marble in the master and living room is weird, but you usually see that in very high end homes or mansions, so if you have a more casual type of home it’s kind of an odd choice. Marble is also slippery smooth and very hard. I’d soften it with rugs.
These are just my thoughts, I did work in a tile store for a few years and I am an artist, have an old summer cabin that everyone thinks is absolutely fabulous…got lots of projects of my own in a 100 year old house!

Do what you like, I have four different kinds of wood, Marble, Bamboo, Tile and carpet. If you are happy with it, that’s all that matters.

Busy, busy. Variety isn’t always the spice of life.
I’d stick with ceramic or porcelain tile in the high traffic areas, natural stone, marble or traventine, in bath rooms. Also wood in other rooms. Like the answer above I don’t care for carpet. Cleaning, chemicals in the carpet, traffic patterns. I prefer wood or tile and some well placed area rugs.
And from a practical stand point, don’t tear out tile, unless it is ugly or coming up, ie failure. It is horrible to tear out, even if hire someone else. It is a mess.
I’d start with replacing the vinyl tiles with wood. If money allows. And yeah marble in the living is weird and impractical. Marble wears easily and scratches. But if it looks good, I just use some area rug to soften it up. In fact you could create some spaces within the living room by arranging the furniture and using some small rugs, instead of one big rug.
