Install wood laminate over tile flooring on second floor condo?
I currently have tile flooring & I would like to install wood flooring over the tile. I live on the second floor in a condo. My neighbors below me play loud music & I was hoping I could have some kind of sound proof foam installed under the wood to help with reducing the sound. Also, I realize that it must be pretty loud for them to hear me walking on my tile floor. So it would help both of us live more peacefully. My concern is that the laminate & tile flooring might be to heavy & not be supported in our condo. Maybe I am crazy but it just seems like a lot of weight above their ceiling. What do you think, can this be done & will it be safe?
My assumption is that your floor probably doesn’t have any insulation in it which would be far more cost effective and efficient in the long run. But alternatively if you are looking to replace the flooring then i would pursue a hardwood, there are many sound-dulling options that can be put down before the flooring is installed and in my opinion it looks better in the end. what ever you do, you will need to remove the existing flooring in order to properly install it.
