What flooring keeps the room cooler in the summer? Tile or Wood?

My room is directly to the sun in the day time and although we changed my windows it still gets hot and stuffy in my room. Which flooring would make my room cooler in the summer tile or wood? And what else can I do to keep my room cool? Thanks!

If the tiles get direct sunlight the room will stay warm from the radient heat from the tiles. Try to block the direct sunlight with heavy curtains but try not to stop the airflow through the room… or….. get the windows tinted with a reflective window tint to try to reflect some of the heat away…. or… fit some external canvas blinds which would still allow airflow

Normally, The tile will feel cooler; whether vinyl or ceramic; however if its in direct sun your floor will actually feel warmer than if it was carpeted as it will heat the hard surface which retains the heat longer. I know it sounds dumb, but that’s the way it is.

Tile (ceramic or stoneware – not vinyl). Fit blinds to the windows and use them, or UV filter film to the glass to cut down the amount of solar gain entering the room. The trick is to stop the energy enetering in the first place – external shutters as in Mediterranean countries for example.

If all else fails fit a small ac unit (preferably a split unit – or a portable one), or a punkawallah – ceiling mounted fan as found all over India (you can get stylish ones).

Hi, The type of flooring won’t make the difference you need to block the sun from heating up the room. If you still want to see out side there are solar shades that still allow this. Hope this helps.
