What the heck is this, Women: ? Do you think a man is not capable in answering this simple question or have the sense to make a good judgment call? I do most of the decorating and remodeling ideas in my home with the approval of my wife. And she has liked everything I have suggested. When friends come to our home we get high praise of our taste, with comments it looks like a home in a magazine. At this point I'm not even going to give you an answer should it be wood or tile. You are insulting to men.
References :
Wood is probably a better product for resell in most homes.

What type of flooring will meet this floor? If you have Stone or Tile in the Entry and the DR is off the entry, then it could be a way of opening up the house more. Think about what the other floor surfaces that meet this will be. The more open the floor plan looks the better.
References :
Tile -- the rough times the Dining Room will experience from having to feed children DEMANDS tile -- because they scuff floors, will dig deep ruts into wood, rock back and forth in their chairs, drop the food, etc etc etc -- and tile -- well, it will stand up much better over the long run.
References :
Single Parent of Two (now Adult Children). Yes, I know what children do -- and they did it all. REAL HARD on flooring -- that is why I did my dining Area as a DIY project in TILE.

Wood. Dropping china on a tile floor will almost guarantee a breakage in both the china and the tile.
References :
Wood, definitely.

It's better suited for a dining room and I think it's a better added value for the house's resale too.
References :
hardwood floors, hands down...
I had a 3400 sq. ft. house, built in 1910... 4 1/2 bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs... downstairs, a guest bedroom , a huge lvg/room, computer area, a formal dining room, kitchen, full bathroom, a breakfast nook, and fireplaces in every room.... Every room in the house had hardwood floors, stained with dark colored tint.... it was beautiful!
