Would you choose laminate wood floor or laminate tile floor for a kitchen and why?
Kitchen is currently real tile but we put a laminate wood floor in the adjacent great room/dining room. There is a large height difference betweent these two floors and the tile was not properly installed. I am considering different flooring options that will allow for a minimal height transition… what’s best from a design POV?
Tile is best for wet areas yes this is true but keeping current tiles is not an option. The installation was very poor, tiles creek and are uneven. This is propably because it was already installed over a vinyl floor instead of using cement board subfloor. It would be foolish to install more tiles overtop and then my transition will be 1.5 in instead of the current .5 in.
Gazeygoo… did your product have a warrenty? All the products I am looking at have at least a 25 year warrany most of them are lifetime. Did you contact the manufacturer? get reimbursed?

I have laminate in my kitchen, I could not afford the real Italian terra cota look tiles. I found the exact same in laminate. So easy to clean and it always looks like new.
I have it for 3 years now.

i would’nt choose laminate flooring for kitchen or bathrooms this type of flooring is only water resistant and not waterproof so any spillage could be a problem….why not re-tile over the existing tiles if they are not to your taste or damaged,you just need to use a flexible adhesive.

We put laminated wood floors in the kitchen and laundry room when we built our house 3 years ago. At this point I am ready to replace. It has marked up, warped and faded in spots contrary to the guaranteed claims. In addition it is difficult to clean. A special and expensive cleaner was recommended but didn’t actually get it clean and when it is cleaned you must be careful to clean in one direction and it definitely cannot be walked on while wet as the foot prints will glare when it is dry. Needless to say I am greatly disappointed and plan to replace it with another product.

My husband is a professional flooring installer. I myself was in the business for several years. Laminate is not a good choice for a kitchen. Warranties are very easily voided by the homeowner, and at most the product will be replaced to fail again.
The problems that you are having with your tile sound like it might be due to your sub floor. Tile just does not creak.
There are other options. Most of the vinyl manufacturers make a product with the look of a wood floor. There are also luxury vinyl tiles that are absolutely gorgeous.
Vinyl planks might be the right choice for your situation, to correct your height difference, although you could have a transition piece put in. The planks look like a wood floor, but you care for them like vinyl. They come in many colors, and the design possibilities are the same as with a wood floor as far as directionality.

we had to put down luan 1/4 inch plywood to even up our floor in order to put down laminate.I love it in my kitchen it is light in color and i painted the walls a buttery yellow.go to http://www.lumberliquidators.com Bob Villa recommends them and their floors are featured in the hgtv dream house and it is cheap.laminate is easy to clean with a swifter wet jet,it doesn’t scratch like real wood.Of course if you leave liquid on any wood floor it will damage it.Highly recommend it and they do have ones with 25 year warranties

Laminate is NOT a good idea for any floor area going to have spills dish washer etc. it is not water proof.. and even mopping w/ a too wet of a mop can cause the edges to curl.The Old tile can be removed along w/ the old vinyl flooring w/ a hammer and goggles,scrapper,and elbow grease. Something you and your husband can do in day.If it is already loose it should come up pretty easy! I then recommend using a flooring such as tile that is water Proof! If you have any ?’s about installing tile I’d be glad to help.
