In painting interior walls, could you use regular white paint instead of a primer?
I have to paint over a colored wall. I have used primer before, and didn’t see much difference, than if I had just used a white paint base. I’m going to be painting the wall a light cream color, so its close to white anyways. Is there any reason why a primer is better than using plain white paint?
No need to prime over an already finished wall. Almost any color will cover up any other color with two coats of good quality paint. Some say, and there may be scientific proof, that primer makes the new color more true or brighter. That may or may not be true, but to 98% of people, the result of just using regular paint in place of primer, gives an acceptable finished product.

Primer is just a cheap paint used to neutralize the colour when making drastic changes from dark to light to save using expensive paint. Using a regular white paint is fine.

The regular white paint will be okay to use instead of primer. Since you are painting a light cream color there won’t be any problems. Have fun painting!
