Interior painting help needed?
I’m thinking abt doing Interior Painting of my house. i need some help with the type of paint to choose for the walls, colour scheme for the summer(or a colour palate that would go for all yr round) n how to calculate the volume of paint needed given the surface area to be painted? is it better to do the painting yourself or getting done from a proffessional? also if i do it myself how long would it take to paint 6 rooms?
color schemes… it would be best to do walls in a ‘neutral’ color and just change out patterns and colors in the fabrics and accessories in the room.
how much paint? it would depend on the size of the room.. if you are painting the ceiling as well… ceilings can be done in white or in the color of the walls… most home stores can help with the paint needed per room.
I do all my painting myself… and for 6 rooms, would give myself 6 weeks.. prepping the room takes awhile… then put things back together before starting on the next room

If you are good at it and know what you are doing (priming the walls, etc.) then go ahead and do it yourself. It will be rather time consuming if you want to do a good job. If you can afford it though, I would say hire a specialist, ask for referrals from friends and family, there is tons of people out there that don’t know what they’re doing. As for the colors, if you want to keep it the same color for a while, choose neutrals like beiges, creams etc. Lately, what’s been popular: bright, rich colors like reds, deep greens, orange, deep blue etc.

are you really planning on doing 6 rooms yourself?

if you are not going white/off white and you prefer colors then you need to find a good color that will match the furniture you have or are planning to have in your home.
don’t forget that light/shade can change the color of the paint and may cast a different color than you would want.
you also will want to try to have the same value of color in each room that is open to the next. for example you don’t want to walk into a spruce livingroom and be able to look into a purple kitchen. the flow of color must be constant as you walk from room to room.
you should keep a certain palette of color such as neutrals, or naturals,
having different colors of the same value is about as nice as having different shades of one color.
your rooms must be the color to accent your usage. your bedrooms should be darker colors than your kitchens and bathrooms where there is more energy.
by measuring the rooms you must multiply the width of the wall by the height of the wall and don’t forget the ceiling.
Always buy more than you need cause there will always be nicks and scrapes later on that will need a touch up and you will already have the paint.
ps, it is always best to record each paint and how much you use per room in case you need to know for future reference.
I can do a 9×10 room in a weekend. I start around 7am and stop around 9pm with breaks during the day.

Okay. Flat paint is impossible to clean. Satin is good for bedrooms, living rooms. Semi gloss is best for bathrooms, both are easy to clean. Next, go to hgtv.com, click on "projects" & use the virtual painter. You can paint sample rooms with hundreds of colors, to find what you like best. You can do your whole house like this. They also have an estimator for how much paint you’ll need for each room. Just type in the dimentions of the room. Having a painter do the work can be expensive. I like doing it myself. It’s satisfying when you’re done & it looks great. How long it takes depends on how fast you go, breaks you take, etc.
