What’s the best way to get a straight line between ceiling and walls in interior painting?
I want to paint the walls yellow and leave the ceiling alone (it’s white color). I was told that masking tape might have bleed-through so you might end up not having a straight line between the ceiling and the walls. Does painter’s edger work? My family room is 2 story high (about 17′) . Is there anyway I can avoid climbing the ladder that high and get a decent result?
Blue painters tape should be used if you are leaving on woodwork or glass for a long period of time. i.e.- day or more. It allows for clean removal. It wont give you straight lines! The reason paint bleeds as you say is it gets behind the tape. Use caulking and rub onto tape where the line will be. It will seal the tape. It will give you a very sharp and professional line. Use a higher adhesion masking tape. The blue stuff is a rip off. Twice the price at least. Unless you are going to leave it up there for a while. You have to get up there if you want good results.

Just use a blue masking tape! It won’t bleed through. Just put the tape near the ceiling and use a long handled paint roller to paint.

Scotch-Blue painter’s tape is the most versatile among the Scotch masking tapes and the best choice for most painting projects. Tape removes cleanly in challenging situations, including glass exposed to direct sunlight. Suitable for most painted surfaces such as painted walls, painted trims and woodworks, metal, glass, and gelcoat. Can be left in place as long as two weeks without leaving messy adhesive behind.
